यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत | अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम् ||7||
Whenever and wherever there is a decline in righteousness and a rise of unrighteousness, O descendant of Bharata, at that time I manifest Myself.
Transliteration
yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati bhārata | abhyutthānam adharmasya tadātmānaṁ sṛijāmyaham ||7||
Commentary
In this famous verse, Lord Krishna explains the purpose of His divine descents (avatars). He appears in the material world to protect the righteous, vanquish the wicked, and re-establish the principles of dharma.
